2027 CAM Perennial Exhibition
Open Call for Artists

Contemporary Art Month invites Texas-based artists interested in being selected to participate in the next Perennial Exhibition to apply to the 2027 Open Call. Introduced in 2012, the CAM “Perennial” Exhibition, features a curator from outside of San Antonio to curate a show of San Antonio contemporary artists. Since its inception, the perennial has taken different forms. In keeping with its mission to promote a wider profile of contemporary art in San Antonio, CAM is opening the 2027 Perennial Open Call to all artists living and working in Texas. By opening the opportunity, we aim to connect artists across the state and introduce San Antonio artists to a broader audience.

Maggie Adler has over two decades of art world experience, having distinguished herself as a curator, speaker, writer, mentor, nonprofit fundraiser, and organizational leader. She is now an independent curator specializing in the relationships between historical and contemporary art.
She has organized numerous exhibitions across the US, including The Perilous Texas Adventures of Mark Dion (2020); Sandy Rodriguez In Isolation (2021); Emancipation: The Unfinished Project of Liberation (2023); Jean Shin: The Museum Body (2024); and Los Encuentros (2025).
She is a multi-term commissioner of public art for the City of Fort Worth, Texas; and she serves the Smithsonian Archives of American Art as a board member and the Williams College Museum of Art and the Arrival Art Fair in an advisory capacity.
Eligability
The 2027 Perennial Open Call is available to Texas-based artists. Undergraduate students are not eligible to apply (must not be a student at time of application or exhibition).
Exhibition Information
The 2027 CAM Perennial exhibition will take place at Ruby City (San Antonio, TX) Opening March 6th.
Selection Disclosure
Questions?
Part of the mission of CAM is to give full authority to the selected curators. This strategy is aimed at allowing independent curators full liberty and avoiding personal conflicts, given the close-knit nature of the San Antonio arts community. To this end:
The CAM Board has no hand or influence in the curation, discussion, or review of the selected artists.
The CAM Perennial Artists selection is entirely at the discretion of the guest curator, who does not confer final selection with the CAM Board.
CAM board members simply compile the information that artists give in their application and share this with the curator.
