SAN ANTONIO ARTIST DOUGLAS GALLOWAY OPENS HIS STUDIO DOORS TO REVEAL SOME OF HIS NEWEST WORKS FROM HIS SERIES “OPAQUE” AS PART OF THIS YEAR’S CONTEMPORARY ART MONTH
San Antonio, Texas based abstract artist, Douglas Galloway opens his studio doors to the public this coming 2nd Saturday as he introduces several new large scale paintings in conjunction with San Antonio’s 2020 CAM month. Galloway’s new series, titled "Opaque,” is a study of the strength and resilience of the city of New Orleans, Galloway’s home for over 10 years. “Opaque” will be on exhibit Saturday, March, 14th, 2020
Through the assembly of soft opaque colors presented in careful alignment of textured boxes in heavily layered paint and wax, Galloway’s work invites others to glimpse into his experiences of the people and places that have shaped his journey. In “Opaque,” the artist’s memories are enveloped in beeswax to create an opaque spectral window that is encaustic by nature and abstract in presentation.

About the Artist
Douglas Galloway was born from the blood of red dirt, bleached by the west Texas sun and the moss-covered cypress that languish in bayous of his boyhood memories. Nudged and teased by the works of Rothko and Kline, his collections of abstract, encaustic, mixed media paintings take root in the dry, parched soil of the Pecos Valley and extend eastward to the canvas of the Creole south. From under layers of wax, paint and wood, memories of Louisiana porch light summers will call to you in whispers and promises wrapped in the eclectic spirituality that defines him; a career artist of over thirty years, as he confronts the moment when danger and beauty become one.
